Puppy Mill Survivor

“Jonathan” - formerly "Sed"

I was born on or about February 9, 2001. I was rescued in early January 2005 from an un-licensed breeding facility near Licking, Missouri by Purebred Dog Rescue of Missouri. The rescue was prompted by a call from the USDA Animal Care program to Purebred Rescue after inspecting the facility where I and a dozen other Goldens were confined. The breeder chose to surrender us rather than meet licensing requirements.

On 1-21-05, Gateway Golden Retriever Rescue received us Goldens for rehabilitation and subsequent adoption. I was fostered by a wonderful woman, Pat, until I was able to be adopted on March 1, 2005. Within the first 24 hours at my new home, I had two grand mal seizures and was immediately placed on phenobarbital with good success. At this time, I am seizure free.

Being a member of this family has been pure joy. I love people more than I love other dogs. I have survived the cruelty of the puppy mill years and I am still the most affectionate dog ever. While I will never forget those years, I have forgiven them. I have become a popular neighbor and friend because of my endearing and lovable personality. My luxurious coat, which belies its horrific history, complements my 'golden' heart. I hope to be with my family for many more years to come.
