ACTION ALERT – CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
 MARCH 28, 2011

Dear Supporters,

A vote that would, in effect, repeal Prop B is coming down to the wire in the House of Representatives.  There will be a hearing this week on SB 113.  SB 113 is a bill which would repeal all the major provisions of care contained in Proposition B.  A vote on SB 113 could take place as early as next week on the floor of the House.

We urgently need you to contact your Missouri State Representative by phone or email.  Please urge your Representative to Vote NO on SB 113.

While the sponsors of SB 113 claim it will protect animals, it actually REPEALS all the humane provisions of animal care contained in Prop B.

While the sponsors of SB 113 claim it punishes those who mistreat animals, it actually DECREASES penalties that exist in current law.

While the sponsors of SB 113 claim it will provide funding for better enforcement, they fail to disclose that Prop B is fully funded and that the sponsors of SB 113 actually voted against an increase in funding as recently as last year.  They are now using a promise to increase funding as an excuse to strip all humane standards of care from Prop B.  The sponsors of SB 113 only support an increase in funding as long as there are little or no humane provisions left to enforce.

Please contact your State Representative and urge him/her to vote NO on SB 113.

Throughout the current legislative session, misinformation has been spread about Proposition B and SB 113 both by our opposition and the House leadership.  This misinformation includes talking points sent out by the House leadership for use by the representatives in communications with their constituents.  DON’T BE FOOLED BY THESE ARGUMENTS! In order to help you better understand both Prop B and SB 113, we have attached a fact sheet.

The attached sheet will provide you with the facts about Prop B and the devastating effects of SB 113. Our information directly refutes misleading information in the House leadership’s talking points.   More important, it will provide you with the facts to rebut any misinformation your Representative might offer up as a reason to vote for SB 113 --- which is a vote against Prop B.

Feel free to send your state representative any parts or the entire Fact Sheet to help persuade him/her to vote NO ON SB 113.

A chart is also attached showing a side-by-side comparison of Prop B vs. SB 113.  This is a great tool to help you see how SB 113 guts all the humane standards of care provided by Prop B.  Please forward this chart to your legislators as well.

Finally, we appreciate knowing the responses you receive from your legislators.  This information helps us as we continue to fight SB 113 and educate the legislators right up to the time of a vote.

We are also available to help you respond to arguments not contained in the attached Fact Sheet as you communicate with your legislator to VOTE AGAINST SB 113.  Please call or email us at any time.

Thanks,
