Director's Update
December, 2011
Dear
Friends,
Since I last reported to you in October, there are now an additional 100
commercial dog breeding operations that have gone out of business here in
Missouri. This means that from January 2009 until the present, there has
been a 40% decrease in the number of commercial dog breeders in the
state. As we approach the holiday season, we could not have hoped for a better
present than far fewer puppy mills in Missouri.
We can also look forward to a Happy New Year as we begin a new era for breeding
dogs in Missouri as the requirement for a hands-on physical examination
goes into effect on January 1st, as well as the doubling of their required
living space. The regulations to fully implement the Large Carnivore Act
also become effective in 2012.
We have so much more to do for the animals in the coming year, but we should not
forget to take time out during this season to be thankful for our
accomplishments and to celebrate our victories for the animals. These successes
are a result of the work and support you have provided this past year. I am so
thankful for all you do for the Alliance and the animals. Your efforts
are invaluable in maintaining a voice for the animals in front of our
legislators and government officials.
I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a New Year filled with peace and
happiness especially for our animal friends!
Sincerely,

Bob Baker
